About this conversion
Most of the weight of a mail archive is attachments, and most of the reason to open one is to get them back: invoices, scans, photos, contracts. Filter by year or file type first, and the zip holds only what you actually need.

You are not locked into ZIP
The file is parsed once and stays open, so the format is picked at the end rather than the beginning: the same .mbox can leave here as CSV, XLSX, EML, PDF, HTML, TXT or JSON. Before that you can search it by subject or address, filter by year, sender and attachment type, mark the duplicates and look through the archive overview.
Questions
- Are duplicate files kept?
- Identical attachments are stored once, and names that repeat get a numeric suffix instead of overwriting each other.
- How large can the archive be?
- Up to roughly half a gigabyte on a normal computer — the limit is your device's memory, not a plan.
