MBOX to HTML — the whole archive as one readable page
Turn an mbox archive into a single HTML page with every message, formatting and inline images kept.
About this conversion
An mbox is one long file that only a mail program can make sense of. Written out as HTML it becomes a page anyone can open and scroll: messages in order, formatting intact, inline images embedded where they belong. It is the format to reach for when an archive has to be handed to somebody who will not install anything, or kept somewhere it can still be read in ten years.
Just want to look inside it?
The same tool without converting anything: open a .mbox file and read it.
You are not locked into HTML
The file is parsed once and stays open, so the format is picked at the end rather than the beginning: the same .mbox can leave here as CSV, XLSX, ZIP, EML, PDF, TXT or JSON. Before that you can search it by subject or address, filter by year, sender and attachment type, mark the duplicates and look through the archive overview.
Questions
- Is it one page or one file per message?
- One page with every message on it, so a browser search goes through the whole archive at once.
- Do images survive?
- Images that travelled inside the messages are embedded in the page. Remote images and tracking pixels are not fetched.
- Is the page safe to open?
- Yes. Scripts are stripped, and nothing in the page reaches out to a network when you open it.
